About Us

Plexus Films

Plexus Films produces social, cultural and arts documentaries with a heart. Our vision is to tell stories with empathy and honesty. Content dictates form and our work ranges from cinéma vérité to interpretative use of visuals and archive. While we favour one off in-depth documentaries, we have produced a variety of documentary formats as well as a reality documentary series. We have told deeply personal stories like the feature documentary, Keiskamma -A Story of Love (2007) and followed personal rites of passage in
Spirits of the Uhadi (2004).

Plexus Films has covered various social issues for NGO clients, such as Everybody’s Cup of Tea, commissioned by the Environmental Monitoring Group and Hostel Stories, for the Development Action Group. Our corporate clients have included the City of Cape Town, Spier Arts Trust, Design Indaba, Nederburg and Random House Publishing. Youth and Children’s programming include contributions to Takalane Sesame and Get Real We produced the award-winning documentary Krisimesi - Video Diaries of Cape Town Children, giving children a voice to tell their own stories.

Plexus Films conceptualised the innovative cultural documentary series Headwrap - a series that explores new territory, creatively and emotionally by challenging two artists from different genres to collaborate across the generational, cultural and social divide to create and perform new work.

Producer-director team Miki Redelinghuys and Lauren Groenewald are not only committed to telling great stories but also to developing new voices in the South African documentary landscape.
